Patlib and PIP

In 2025, the DGPI-UIBM continued its collaboration with the 39 patent information centres distributed across the national territory, as part of its institutional commitment to facilitating the provision of specific services for the protection and valorisation of Industrial Property, to the benefit of businesses, researchers, private inventors and students.  

The network comprises two types of centres, distinguished by level of specialisation and range of services offered:

• 25 Patent Information Points (PIPs), which provide basic information, guidance and assistance on matters relating to patents, trademarks, designs and models, and other Industrial Property rights;
• 14 Patent Libraries (PATLIBs), which provide specialised patent search services, including technology monitoring and strategic consultancy, as well as assistance on other intellectual property rights.

The network, coordinated and promoted by the DGPI-UIBM, is synergistically integrated with the European network of approximately 324 centres, supported and promoted by the European Patent Office (EPO).

The DGPI-UIBM published and disseminated 25 Newsletters (+4.2% compared to 2024) among the members of the Italian network, to share information, promote best practices and systematise efforts in the field of IP.

With the objective of contributing to the dissemination of an IP culture, the centres:

• reached 28,691 users (+10.4% on 2024);
• delivered 52,313 services (+23.1% on 2024), of which 20,375 (+50.9% on 2024) related to information on IP titles;
• organised 228 events, attended by 7,685 participants.
