Trend and filing procedures –2020-2024

In 2024, almost 1,400 applications for the registration of designs and models were submitted, for a total of over 37,000 designs. For the second consecutive year, there was a year-on-year increase of more than 10% in the number of applications filed. In 84% of cases, the online filing procedure was used.

The geographical distribution of applicants with residence in national territory shows similar percentages in all macro-areas of the country, with a slight prevalence in Central Italy.

Out of a total of just over 1,000 final orders issued in relation to designs and models registration applications, almost all concerned the registration of such Industrial Property rights.

According to the Locarno classification, the sectors with the highest number of designs and models registered in 2024 were 'Articles of clothing and haberdashery' and 'Furnishings', which, together, accounted for almost 30% of the total designs and models registered in the reference year.
