In 2024, 492 applications for patents and utility models were filed by research institutes and universities, confirming the upward trend of the last 3 years. The number of applications examined and concluded with a grant provision by DGPI-UIBM was 362.
IPC classification – Distribution of orders issued by sector in 2024*
The 'Human Necessities' sector, based on the international patent classification (IPC), was once again the sector with the highest number of patents granted, accounting for 27% of the total. As in the previous year, “Physics' and 'Chemistry; Metallurgy', were the other two fields with the highest number of grants.
