In 2025, the number of utility model applications filed was the highest recorded over the entire five-year period under review, with over 2,000 applications, surpassing both the 2021 figure and those of the intervening years.
In parallel, the percentage of online filings in 2025 reached an all-time high within the reference period (87.8%), confirming a growth trend already underway in previous years. Only 10 applications were filed by postal mail, while almost 12% were submitted through the CCIAA.

In 2025, the geographical distribution by region of residence of utility model applicants was balanced across the national territory. The Centre and the North-East were the most represented areas, both at 24%, followed by the North-West at 21% and the South and Islands at 20%. The share of applicants from abroad was more limited, standing at 11%.
Granted utility models and other final orders issued* – Years 2021– 2025
*The final orders issued concern grants, conversions pursuant to Art. 84 of the Industrial Property Code (IPC), inadmissible, rejected and withdrawn applications.
Over the five-year period under review, an uneven trend was observed: following the initial peak in 2021, the total number of final orders recorded a progressive contraction through to a low point in 2024, before returning to growth in 2025.
2025 represents a particularly positive outcome: the total number of final orders issued rose to 2,102, marking a significant increase compared to 2024. This growth was driven primarily by grants, which were numerically higher than in the previous year and reached the highest percentage over the entire period under review, standing at 75.3%.

Considering the distribution by sector identified on the basis of the International Patent Classification (IPC), the "Human Necessities" sector was clearly predominant, accounting for 33.6%. In second place was "Performing Operations, Transporting" at 25%, also a highly significant figure. At a greater distance followed more technical and specialised fields: "Mechanical Engineering, Lighting, Heating, Weapons and Blasting" accounted for 11.5%, while "Fixed Constructions" (9.7%) and "Physics" (9.6%) showed very similar shares. The "Electricity" sector carried a more limited weight (7%), while "Textiles and Paper" (2.3%) and "Chemistry and Metallurgy" (1.6%) remained marginal.
