Trend and filing procedure –2020-2024

In 2024, 1,830 utility models applications were filed, a figure almost identical to that of the previous two years. Of the 1,830 applications submitted, just under 87% were filed via the online procedure.

Looking at the geographical distribution by region of residence of the applicants, the distribution was fairly balanced among the Italian macro-regions, all of which stood at just over 20%.

Granted utility models and other final orders issued* in 2020-2024

In 2024, 1,273 utility models were granted, accounting for about 72% of the final issued orders, which amounted to almost 1,800.

Considering the distribution by sectors identified on the basis of the International Patent Classification (IPC), the two sectors that saw the most utility models grants issued in 2024 were 'Human Necessities' and 'Performing operations, Transportation'.
