The number of trademark registration and renewal applications increased compared to the previous year, which had recorded approximately 65,000 applications, reaching 68,792 applications in 2025. The use of the online channel as the preferred filing method also grew, with over 74% of applicants opting for it in 2025.

With regard to applications for the registration of new trademarks, 2025 marks the highest point over the five-year period under review, with almost 46,000 applications submitted — an increase compared to the previous year, confirming a positive trend following the decline recorded in 2022.
Online filing rose in 2025, reaching 74% and marking an all-time high over the 2021–2025 five-year period. 25% of new trademark registration applications were submitted through the Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Crafts and Agriculture (CCIAA), while just over 100 applications were received by the UIBM by postal mail.

The distribution of applicants for new trademark registrations by area of residence shows a balanced spread across the country, with a slight prevalence of Southern Italy and the Islands (26%) and North-Western Italy (25.9%), which together account for more than half of the total. Central Italy follows with a significant share (24.2%), while North-Eastern Italy contributes 19.1%. The foreign component, though more limited, remains noteworthy at 4.8%, indicating a still marginal presence relative to the national context.

Following an initial phase characterised by high volumes and a progressive decline in the proportion of registrations reaching its lowest point in 2023, a reversal of this trend has been observed from 2024 onwards. In 2025, the number of new trademark registrations remained at a significant level (34,762). The proportion of registrations out of the total final orders issued reached 91.3%, the highest figure since 2021.

In 2025, the distribution of trademark registrations shows a notable concentration in the "Advertising" (10.1%) and "Education, Providing of Training" (10.1%) sectors, according to the Nice Classification. These are followed, with a more limited share, by "Clothing, footwear, headwear" (5.9%) and "Scientific and technological apparatus and instruments" (5%). All remaining sector categories fall below 5%, with progressively decreasing values.

In 2025, trademark renewal applications reached 22,821, marking a significant increase compared to 2024 and clearly exceeding the levels recorded in previous years. At the same time, the proportion of online filings rose to 84%, the highest figure over the period under review, confirming a growing preference for the digital channel, despite almost 16% of applications having been submitted through the CCIAA.
