On April 6, 2022, the Italian Council of Ministers approved the amended version of the Industrial Property Code (IPC) – Legislative Decree No. 10 of February 2005, No. 30, drafted by the DGTPI-UIBM with the aim of strengthening the competitiveness of the Italian economic system and IP protection, streamlining and digitalizing administrative procedures concerning IP.

The parliamentary process for its adoption started on May 25, 2022 with the presentation to the Senate (Senate Act 2631) and subsequent assignment to the 10th standing committee (Industry, Trade, Tourism). As a result of the dissolution of the Chambers, the parliamentary process was interrupted. After the new Government took office, the Code draft law was re-approved by the Italian Council of Ministers on December 1, 2022. The draft law was submitted to the Senate of the Republic on December 16, 2022, registered under No. S. 411.

The revision of the IP Code is included in Mission 1, Component 2, Investment 6 of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, a milestone to be achieved by September 30, 2023, through the entry into force of the amendments to the Code and the definition of the relevant implementation tools.
