The large and growing involvement of the business and academic worlds into the investment measures promoted over the last few years by the DGPI-UIBM to enhance research results, promote Industrial Property rights in business strategies and encourage the transfer of scientific results from the academic world to the productive world, have confirmed the strategic importance of continuing to invest financial resources in this area.

In 2023, new calls for incentives addressed to enterprises were published - “Disegni+” [Designs+], “Marchi+” [Trademarks+] and “Brevetti+” [Patents+] – with €32 million overall. The possibility to submit applications was closed in record time, due to the exhaustion of the overall financial resources available, as compared to the number of applications submitted, thus confirming the interest of the national productive world in these measures and programs which have become crucial for the support and promotion of IP right enhancement programs.

Other important actions implemented by the DGPI-UIBM in 2023 to encourage the spreading of scientific know-how from research to the productive world are the initiatives concerning the communication and technology transfer of research results, including the publication of the new edition of the call for funds for the “promotion abroad of collective trademarks and certifications”, the launch of an award to the best patents (IPA Competition) and the upgrading of the Knowledge Share platform for information exchange on research results.

The overall range of investment measures promoted by the DGPI-UIBM in 2023 allocated €34.4 million.
